La vida breve (A Brief Life) is the inaugural novel of Santa María, the mythical territory of the Onettian narrative.

The protagonist of La vida breve , Brausen, listens through a wall to a conversation between a man and a woman. Imagine his gestures, his feelings # Brausen lives with his wife, mutilated after a complicated operation, and to compensate for the physical void that will stop his caresses, he imagines stories: that of Santa María, and that of a doctor named Díaz Gray.
